Social Health Is Associated With Tract-Specific Brain White Matter Microstructure in Community-Dwelling Older Adults

چکیده

Poor social health has been linked to risk of neuropsychiatric disorders. Neuroimaging studies have shown associations between and global white matter microstructural integrity. We aim identify which tracts are involved in these associations. Social markers (loneliness, perceived support, partnership status) integrity 15 (identified with probabilistic tractography after diffusion magnetic resonance imaging) were collected for 3352 participants (mean age 58.4, 54.9% female) from 2002-2008 the Rotterdam Study. Cross-sectional studied using multivariable linear regression. Loneliness was associated higher mean diffusivity (MD) superior thalamic radiation parahippocampal part cingulum (standardized difference both tracts: 0.21, 95%CI: 0.09; 0.34). Better support lower MD forceps minor per point increase support: -0.06, -0.09; -0.03), inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus uncinate fasciculus. In male participants, better minor, not having a partner fractional anisotropy (FA) minor. female only. tract-specific microstructure. limbic sensorimotor tracts, whereas association commissural indicating that domains involve distinct neural pathways brain.

Predictors of Social Isolation Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Introduction and objective: Social isolation can lead to depression, decline in life expectancy, and increased death anxiety among older adults. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the predictors of social isolation in community-dwelling older adults residing in Qazvin, Iran. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross sectional study was conducted on 301 older adults...

Localization of brain white matter hyperintensities and urinary incontinence in community-dwelling older adults.

BACKGROUND Because white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be linked to geriatric syndromes involving mobility, cognition, and affect, we postulated that involvement of areas critical to bladder control could influence urinary incontinence (UI). METHODS One hundred community-dwelling individuals (75-89 years) were recruited into three groups stratified by ...

Endothelial Function Is Associated with White Matter Microstructure and Executive Function in Older Adults

Age-related declines in endothelial function can lead to cognitive decline. However, little is known about the relationships between endothelial function and specific neurocognitive functions. This study explored the relationship between measures of endothelial function (reactive hyperemia index; RHI), white matter (WM) health (fractional anisotropy, FA, and WM hyperintensity volume, WMH), and ...

Prevalence of Cognitive Impairment in Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Introduction: Mild cognitive impairment can be considered as an intermediate clinical state between normal cognitive aging and mild dementia. Elderly people with this impairment represent an at-risk group for the development of dementia. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of cognitive impairment in community-dwelling older adults by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and ...
